Recycling and waste service after 2024
Cabinet authorised officers to seek tenders for a short interim waste contract from 2024 to 2026. It delegated authority (let officers act without a further Cabinet vote) to the Corporate Director of Communities to agree the price of buying Kier’s vehicles and equipment, and to negotiate a switch of the current fleet to HVO fuel. It noted that future financial implications will come back to Cabinet and Council, and asked officers to start work on the future service model.

Call-in of Cabinet decision on recycling and waste after 2024
By majority, the committee did not refer the decision back to Cabinet. Instead it agreed to send Cabinet a report recommending three things. First, future waste proposals should come to the committee for pre-decision scrutiny, including any specialist advice, before they go to Cabinet. Second, contingency measures and other service options should be fully considered. Third, the other options considered for the short-term contract from 2024 to 2026 should be published.

Cabinet response on waste service call-in recommendations
The Committee noted the Cabinet's written response to its recommendations on the waste service. Members had discussed why the response was delayed.
Items are linked when their titles share most of their words and they fall within 18 months of each other. Councils don't number reports across meetings, so a few links may be wrong, and a step may be missing if its title changed a lot. Each step links to the meeting, where the council's own papers are.
