Local development plans

Every council and national park in Wales has a local development plan. It sets out how many new homes and jobs the area needs, where they should go, and the rules for deciding planning applications. Here is where each plan stands.

A local development plan usually covers 15 years. Planning applications are decided in line with it unless there are strong reasons not to. Each authority has to review its plan at least every four years and replace it when it is out of date. A new plan goes through several stages of public consultation before an independent inspector examines it, so there are several chances to have your say.

Every October each authority publishes an annual monitoring report, saying how the plan is working: for example, how many homes were built in the year against what the plan expects.
