The plan in force

Anglesey and Gwynedd Joint Local Development Plan 2011 - 2026

Adopted on 31 July 2017. It covers 2011 to 2026.

Anglesey and Gwynedd share one joint plan, which covers Gwynedd outside Eryri National Park. The figures and sites below cover both areas. Each council is now writing its own replacement.

What the plan says

The main points of the plan on each topic, in plain language. Each point names the policy it comes from and links to the page. They were written automatically from the plan and checked against the words on that page, so read the policy itself before relying on one.

The overall plan

The plan's vision is that by 2026 Anglesey and Gwynedd will be recognised for vibrant and lively communities that celebrate their unique culture, heritage and environment. Page 26
The plan puts a strong emphasis on developing the Sub Regional Centre and the Urban and Local Service Centres, where environmental, social and infrastructure constraints allow. Page 35
The plan allows an appropriate amount of development in villages, with a focus on Service Villages that have better access to services and public transport. Page 35

Homes

The plan sets a target of 7,184 new homes to be built between 2011 and 2026. To allow for some sites not coming forward, it identifies opportunities for around 7,902 homes. Policy PS 16, page 121
The plan sets a minimum target of 1,572 new affordable homes. Affordable housing is housing for people whose needs are not met by the open market, such as social rented or intermediate homes.

How the plan is working

From the annual monitoring report for 2024-25.

Every October each authority publishes an annual monitoring report, saying how the plan is working: for example, how many homes were built in the year against what the plan expects.

A new plan

Gwynedd Local Development Plan 2024-2039

The new plan would cover 2024 to 2039.

Where it stands

Sites put forward

The authority has asked landowners and developers to put forward sites they want considered for building. These are called candidate sites. Being put forward doesn't mean a site will be included.

The dates in the authority's published timetable have passed and it hasn't published new ones.

Sites set aside for building

Sites the plan allocates for development, as it lists them. Having a site allocated means the authority expects it to be built on during the plan period; each one still needs planning permission.
