It refused a petrol filling station and electric vehicle charging hub at Muriau, Caernarfon, for eight reasons, after the application was sent back because the earlier report had not fully considered the food-to-go units. It approved with conditions a 36-home affordable housing scheme on Ffordd Llanberis, Caernarfon, and a project to replace underground electricity cables along the A483 at Porthmadog.
On 15 September 2026 the Cabinet considered eight substantive items. It adopted a new Compact setting out how the council works with the third sector, approved a suicide prevention action plan, and noted a North Wales anchor charter. It also authorised a lease of the former Ysgol Cwm y Glo site to Menter Fachwen, adopted a new Education Transport Policy from September 2027, and finally confirmed the closure of Ysgol Nebo and Ysgol Baladeulyn from 31 December 2026.
The Planning Committee on 7 September 2026 considered three planning applications in Gwynedd. Members delegated the power to approve a scheme of 20 affordable homes at Chwilog, subject to a legal agreement and conditions, after a proposal to refuse it was defeated on a recorded vote. The committee resolved to refuse eight shepherds' huts at Palé Hall Hotel, and delegated powers to refuse a touring caravan extension at Tir Glyn, Uwchmynydd.
On 16 July 2026 the Care Scrutiny Committee considered day care services, a review of complaints, the Llechen Lân update on older people's care, the Third Sector Compact and its work programme for 2026/27. It accepted the reports, asked for further work on funding, rural transport, complaints and the care workforce, and recommended that the Cabinet adopt the Compact only with an action plan and regular reports. It also changed the timing of several reports in its 2026/27 programme.
The Committee reviewed the Finance Department's performance, looked at town centre regeneration, and considered a councillor-led review of safeguarding in schools. Members approved the safeguarding report and asked for an update on its 22 recommendations in about six months. They also adopted the Committee's work programme for 2026/27.
The Planning Committee met on 13 July 2026 to decide five planning applications. It refused a house in Llanberis and two roadside fuel station proposals near Caernarfon, and it approved a school fence in Caernarfon with conditions. It delegated approval of a temporary wind measuring mast at Pen y Bwlch Gwyn to officers, subject to conditions.
The Cabinet adopted a revised Climate and Nature Emergency Plan, a Waste and Recycling Strategy and a revised Safeguarding Policy. It committed £6,317,640 of Local Growth Fund money to ten projects and agreed to use surplus second homes and empty homes premium income on housing. It also agreed to lower the quorum for the National Fostering Service joint committee.
On 1 July 2026 the North Wales Corporate Joint Committee (CJC) Strategic Planning Sub-committee elected Councillor Nicola Roberts as Chair for 2026/27 and received an update on the Strategic Development Plan (SDP), the regional plan for land use and development. Members noted the update and its key milestones, and agreed the sub-committee's forward work programme up to July 2027.
