Corporate Safeguarding Annual Report 2021-22
The minute records the committee's conclusions. The committee welcomed the report and thanked officers, recognising that this area of work is extremely difficult. It noted that the service had acted on last year's comments. It asked for more specific data throughout the report, such as percentages, and asked whether the figures could show how many children were safeguarded more than once and how many were single incidents. It asked that the question on whether the Newport Safeguarding Unit structure is appropriate be removed from future reports, as it is outside the committee's expertise. It asked for training progress updates, including the percentage of staff who have completed training, and half-yearly figures on training and referrals.

Annual corporate safeguarding report
The minute records no formal decision. The Committee was content with the work but wants a focus on outcomes. It recommended that the data be made clearer, and that officers and training providers simplify training courses so they are accessible. It also asked that issues raised be followed up in next year's report.
Items are linked when their titles share most of their words and they fall within 18 months of each other. Councils don't number reports across meetings, so a few links may be wrong, and a step may be missing if its title changed a lot. Each step links to the meeting, where the council's own papers are.
