2026/27 draft budget and council tax proposals for consultation
Cabinet agreed draft proposals for public consultation. These are a council tax rise of 4.9%, which means a weekly increase of £1.00 to £1.34 for Band A to C homes, the most common bands in Newport; the proposed fees and charges; and the budget investments, including those for schools. Cabinet also approved using £327,000 from the Transformation Reserve, money set aside for change projects, to pay for the costs of service mitigations. Cabinet noted savings made under delegated authority, which means officers could act without a Cabinet vote, and noted that the budget will be reviewed before the final budget in February.

Items are linked when their titles share most of their words and they fall within 18 months of each other. Councils don't number reports across meetings, so a few links may be wrong, and a step may be missing if its title changed a lot. Each step links to the meeting, where the council's own papers are.
