The Sub-Committee considered the events and activities planned for Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in 2026, and whether to hold official celebrations for the centenaries of the Bandstand, the National Lido of Wales, and the Evan James and James James memorial. It noted the activities and approved the park as a key host venue for events in the bid to make Pontypridd the first UK Town of Culture. The minute does not record a final decision on the celebrations.
The Ynysangharad War Memorial Park trustees considered the programme for building the main event site in the park for the RCT National Eisteddfod. They approved the construction programme and the phased restrictions on park areas before and after the Eisteddfod, which runs from 3 to 10 August.
It approved the programme, which is due to run from November 2023 to February 2024.
The Sub-Committee considered a proposal to create an additional event space in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park to support major events. Members agreed to support the concept design and a formal funding application, and to give their feedback to Cabinet on 15 May 2023. Trustees were assured there would be no extra car parking or vehicle turning area, and that work would aim to minimise the loss of any trees.
The Sub-Committee considered a plan for a new event space in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, on green land beside the footbridge from the Llys Cadwyn development. Members agreed to ask officers to develop the concept design further and to bid for Visit Wales Brilliant Basics funding.
