Consultation on closing Tref-Y-Rhyg Primary School
Cabinet gave formal approval to start a statutory school organisation consultation on closing Tref-Y-Rhyg Primary School and extending the catchment area of Tonyrefail Community School to cover it. If the proposal goes ahead, the school would close, with pupils moving to Tonyrefail Community School by no later than September 2025. Cabinet will consider the consultation report and decide whether to publish a Statutory Notice, which is the formal public notice of a proposal. The Director of Education and Inclusion Services may make minor changes to the draft consultation document before it is published.

Proposal to close Tref-Y-Rhyg Primary School
The committee resolved to consider responding as a consultee and to make further comments before Cabinet considers the proposal. It asked the Service Director for Democratic Services to send its feedback to Cabinet. Members also asked for a robust analysis of all the data in the report, and for more detail on safe walking routes and on the backlog maintenance figure for accessibility.

Proposed closure of Tref-y-Rhyg Primary School
Cabinet decided to end the statutory process and not to proceed with the proposal to close the school and move its pupils to Tonyrefail Community School. It also noted the consultation report and Estyn's response.
Items are linked when their titles share most of their words and they fall within 18 months of each other. Councils don't number reports across meetings, so a few links may be wrong, and a step may be missing if its title changed a lot. Each step links to the meeting, where the council's own papers are.
