Community & Adult Services Scrutiny Committee. Scrutiny committees question decisions and can recommend changes. They don't make the decision.
Increasing accommodation to meet the housing emergency
The Committee agreed that the Chair would write to the Cabinet Member, conveying the Committee's observations and recommendations on the way forward. The minute does not record those observations.
Cabinet. The Cabinet makes most of the council's decisions.
Buying more properties for temporary accommodation
Cabinet noted the ongoing Housing Emergency in Cardiff and the new demands that will add pressure on homelessness services and temporary accommodation. It approved the acquisition of the properties listed in confidential Appendix B. It delegated authority to the Corporate Director for People and Communities, in consultation with the S151 Officer, Legal Services and two Cabinet Members, to handle the purchases, exchange contracts and complete them, subject to four conditions: Welsh Government grant funding being secured; a financial viability assessment for each purchase; no commitments outside the budget framework; and an updated formal valuation of the properties in confidential Appendices E and F. It also delegated authority to the Corporate Director to consider responses to the recent homelessness consultation and make any consequential policy changes within existing budgets.
Items are linked when their titles share most of their words and they fall within 18 months of each other. Councils don't number reports across meetings, so a few links may be wrong, and a step may be missing if its title changed a lot. Each step links to the meeting, where the council's own papers are.
