Standard and Ethics Sub Committee - Hearings Panel
Ombudsman referral about Councillor Imran Latif
The Panel found the facts of the case established. It was satisfied that Councillor Latif attended the police station as a councillor, because he had introduced himself to the police as one. It found that he had brought his office and the Council into disrepute and so breached paragraph 6.1(a) of the Code of Conduct, which requires members not to act in a way that could reasonably be regarded as bringing their office or authority into disrepute. It also found that he had breached the principle of upholding the law. As the sanction, the Panel suspended Councillor Latif as a county councillor for Cardiff for two months. A decision notice with the reasons and appeal rights will be sent to him within five working days, and an appeal must be made within 21 days. A brief email giving the decision was sent to him on the day of the hearing.
Items are linked when their titles share most of their words and they fall within 18 months of each other. Councils don't number reports across meetings, so a few links may be wrong, and a step may be missing if its title changed a lot. Each step links to the meeting, where the council's own papers are.
